Black Cat Road to reopen next Friday

Meridian - The Ada County Highway District will reopen Black Cat Road, between Franklin Road and Victory Road, will reopen to traffic on Friday, May 5.

Black Cat Road was initially shut down for sewer pipe work early last winter.  Heavy snowfall and low temperatures experienced during last year's historic winter delayed the pipe work. The moisture left after the snow melted resulted in soft subsurface conditions.  Additional excavation and replacement of base gravel was needed to construct a stable base, which took additional time.  The roadway was ready for concrete and asphalt paving in early April; however, the excessive rainfall and subsequent soft conditions delayed work further.

Crews placed concrete pavement for the intersection on April 27, and anticipate two more placements on April 29 and May 1.  Asphalt paving south of the intersection will be done in-between concrete placements.  ACHD anticipates that concrete will be cured and strong enough to support traffic by May 5.

Despite the setbacks encountered during the snowy winter and rainy spring, ACHD anticipates this project will be complete in the fall of 2017.
